Pastor Search Update

Our search is over! God has led us to and, in turn, led to us, the pastor he prepared for us.  Rev.  Donald G. Roberts Jr. gave his presentation message on February 17th, and the church body voted to call him as our Bi-Vocational Pastor in a special called business meeting on February 27th.

As a Bi-Vocational pastor, Rev. Roberts not only work a 40-plus hour a week job, he gives spiritual leadership to Ivor Baptist, visits the sick at home, or in the hospital, and visits shut-ins; during all this, he will also remain engaged in the life of his own family.  A Bi-Vocational pastor is a double-duty minister, willing to do whatever it takes to make a difference for Christ in the  community.

For those who have not met Pastor Roberts, here is a brief biography:

Donald G. Roberts Jr. was born June 4, 1966 in Newport News, Virginia.  He married Ms. Brenda Cippolini-Roberts in February 1989.  Don and Brenda have two children; Donald G Roberts III who currently serves in the U.S. Army and Becca M. Roberts who is attending Chowan University.

Don retired from the US Navy as a Senior Chief Fire Controlman after serving for twenty two and a half years.  He now works for Northrop Grumman as a lead combat systems engineer that provides technical expertise in the maintenance, repair, and upgrading of shipboard communications gear, weapons and engineering systems.

Rev. Roberts was licensed to preach at Hillcrest Baptist Church in Suffolk, VA in September 2007, and was Ordained as Pastor at Colerain Baptist Church, Colerain, NC in June 2008 and currently serves as a Bi-vocational Pastor in Colerain until he comes to Ivor Baptist on April 7th.

He earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Organizational Leadership & Management from Regent University School of Theology in 2006, and then went on to earn a Master of Art degree in practical Theology from Regent University in 2010.

Don states his main objective as Pastor is “to be a servant Leader in the Pastoral Care of a New Testament church as we work together in serving the Lord; growing in our walk with God and advance His Kingdom by sharing and living His Message.”

This has been a year long process for Ivor Baptist and the Pastor Search Committee that has had times of hesitation, anticipation, expectation, and dare I say, frustration, but is now a time of exultation!  The feelings of the Pastor Search Committee and the Deacon Board are best summed up in the words of Judy Radford, the PSC chair, “Praise the Lord!”

Yes, we should praise the Lord, not only for ending this time of uncertainty, but also for allowing us to now concentrate on the fulfillment of His great commission to go and make disciples of all nations, baptize them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teach them to obey everything he has commanded us to do.  Praise the Lord, praise Him indeed!
